Successful completion of AirAsia X special layover signals a promising start for base maintenance checks
Lufthansa Technik Philippines (LTP) warmly welcomed the first aircraft from AirAsia X to enter its hangar doors. Donning an eyecatching livery that showcases the American football team, TheOakland Raiders, the AirAsia X Airbus A340 arrived at LTP’s bay 5 for a special layover.
This check is separate from the contracted base maintenance events, which include four C-checks, one heavy maintenance check and several cabin reconfigurations, which LTP will perform on the Malaysian low cost, long-haul carrier’s Airbus A330 and A340 fleet during the first half of 2010.
Equipped with experience and skills in handling A340 base maintenance, LTP’s Aircraft Overhaul team successfully performed the replacement of the aircraft’s left hand main landing gear seal within the 40- hour layover period. The aircraft rolled out of LTP’s hangar on time and took on its flight back to Kuala Lumpur for a scheduled revenue flight.
Indeed, the success of this event sets a promising start for the partnership between AirAsia X and LTP. As LTP Sales Manager, Dino Santos said, “This special layover provided an opportunity for LTP to showcase its capability and commitment to AirAsia X prior to the start of the nose-to-tail program slated for March 2010.”
