AirAsia X shows how low-cost can be posh

To distinguish itself from competition, AirAsia X is now embarking on an upgrade of its A330/A340 fleet. In these current reconfigurations, LTP has already installed 12 premium flatbed seats on three of AirAsia X’s A330s. Now, AirAsia X rightfully claims to be the only low-cost airline to introduce flatbed seats.

The addition of the flatbed seats and the cabin re-layout brings the total of passenger seats to 392 from the previous 377. The seats which measure 20” wide and stretching to 77” in full recline, feature power sockets, adjustable headrests, and built-in personal utilities such as a tray table, reading light and privacy screen.

The seats are in red and gray, which from a top view of the cabin, interestingly form the now familiar red “X”. In these reconfiguration tasks, LTP installed an additional lavatory in all three A330s. LTP is expecting to welcome the rest of AirAsia X’s A330/ A340 jets in the coming months as the upgrade of the entire fleet will be done in LTP under the base maintenance agreement that the carrier signed recently with LTP, which includes C-checks, a heavy check and several cabin retrofits.
