Virgin Atlantic Airways Base Maintenance Agreement: Long-term Partner In Asia

In a span of one year, more than 10 Airbus A340s have been sent by the UK-based operator to Lufthansa Technik Philippines (LTP).

These jets came in succession to Manila in fulfillment of a five-year base maintenance contract awarded to LTP. The base maintenance agreement covers the entire Airbus A340 fleet of Virgin Atlantic, which consists of seven Airbus A340-300s and 19 Airbus A340-600s.

Virgin Atlantic, which prides itself as the launch customer of the Airbus A340-600, is now the fourth British operator to entrust its aircraft to the Manila-stationed maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) company to answer its base maintenance requirements.

LTP has so far performed a number of C-checks and heavy maintenance checks since the signing of the agreement and will continue to do so until 2012. For the heavy maintenance checks on the A340- 600s, LTP together with Airbus are working hand-in-hand in performing the mandatory Lufthansa Technik Philippines fulfills five-year maintenance contract with Virgin Atlantic Airways Initial year completed modification affecting the frame 47 of the aircraft.

In the modification, LTP performs pre- and post-cutting procedures while the structure cut-out is carried out by Airbus technicians.
