APPLAUSE LED by Lufthansa Technik Philippines (LTP) mechanics greeted the President of the Republic of the Philippines as soon as she stepped into the LTP hangar. Neatly lined up in their uniforms, the LTP mechanics broke into a resounding applause as a fitting reception to the President.

The President, obviously pleased by the warm welcome by the mechanics, was impressed with the sight that greeted her: The new A319 and another aircraft alongside a tent and a tastefully designed stage, all inside a huge hangar.

This was the first visit of the President to LTP since she came into power in 2001. She led over 700 guests from the aviation, business and travel-trade industries to the roll out of the first of 20 single-aisle Airbus jets of Philippine Airlines (PAL). Guests from the diplomatic communities led by German Ambassador Axel Weishaupt and French Ambassador Gerard Chesnel were also present.

PAL Chairman and CEO Lucio C. Tan, Vice Chairman and Treasurer Mariano Tanenglian, and President and Chief Operating Officer Jaime J. Bautista welcomed the President to the event.
